From empty floor to full carvery in eight weeks.

British Garden Centre in Paddock Wood is one of more than 70 centres operated by the brand across the UK, and this project formed part of their continued investment in improving the customer experience. ICM were appointed as Main Contractor to deliver a brand-new 600m² carvery restaurant within the existing garden centre. From the outset, the aim was to create a warm, welcoming dining space that would sit comfortably alongside the retail environment while meeting the operational demands of a busy food offering.

The scope of works was extensive and required close coordination across multiple trades. Internally, this included the installation of new floors, walls and ceilings, alongside high-quality bespoke joinery manufactured in-house by ICM. A full electrical installation was carried out, split between centre power and generator supply, along with new plumbing and gas services to support the kitchen. In addition, a new HVAC system was installed throughout the restaurant, with final decorations and feature wallpaper added to selected areas to complete the look and feel of the space.

On time, on budget, open for business.
The programme was particularly challenging, with a fixed handover date of 15th December to ensure the restaurant could open before Christmas. Once on site, ICM had just eight weeks to complete all works, including the off-site manufacture of joinery and on-site construction of the extension. Through strong project management and close collaboration with the client and supply chain, the works were completed on time and within budget. The restaurant successfully opened at 10am on 15th December, just as planned.
Joinery, extension, and all the finishing touches.
A key element of the project was the creation of a brand-new kitchen, which involved extending the existing building footprint. This required the construction of a timber extension, along with a new concrete pad and associated drainage works. All of this was delivered within a live garden centre environment that continued trading throughout the programme. Careful planning and phasing were essential to safely section off the works area and minimise disruption to both customers and staff.

Bancone in Borough Yards was my second restaurant build with ICM. Timelines were realistic and expectations were exceeded. The project was well managed all the way through and when obstacles were encountered I found their team's ability to problem solve while on the job remarkable. Ultimately, they are a very professional outfit who I will certainly be using again.
